Adopting a Greyhound.

Why a greyhound?

How do I find a Greyhound that’s right for me?

There’s bound to be one that’s perfect for you! Thousands of greyhounds retire each year so there are plenty that need a ‘forever home’. Click on the "Please Choose Me" button on the left to see the dogs we have available right now. A donation of £190 is asked for each dog adopted. This goes towards vets bills and kennel care and helps us carry on finding loving homes for our dogs.

What’s the next step?

Get in touch! Usually one of our team members will visit you in your home. A few simple questions will be asked to help us match the best greyhound to you, your family and life style, this is also a great opportunity for you to ask us any questions you may have. Typical questions you will be asked on the home visit will be:

  1. Have you got a secure area with a fence at least six feet high for your new greyhound to go into?
  2. Do you have any children?
  3. Do you and your family have any experience of being around dogs?
  4. Any cats?
  5. Any Dogs? If ‘yes’ How old is the dog, breed, sex, temperament and neutering status?
  6. Have you or your family homed a rescue dog before?
  7. How long would the dog be left for at any one time?
  8. Where will the dog be walked? For example parks, areas where they will socialise with other dogs.
  9. We will inquire about financial responsibilities like food / vet fees for the dog

THE DANGERS OF PATIO DOORS.

Far too many greyhounds have tragically lost their lives after running into patio door glass and we really can't stress enough how important it is to make sure that you make any glass doors visible to your dog. (This is a requirement when re homing a greyhound from us).

I'm sure many of you will already know the dangers of patio doors and how greyhounds can seriously injure themselves or sadly even be killed by running into doors / low windows when they can't see the glass, which is why we ask you to put stickers on any glass doors when we do homechecks. Please listen and take precautions to keep your dogs safe.

Pre-Adoption.
All our greyhounds are neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and come with 6 weeks free insurance with Petplan.

Off to their ‘Forever Home’
On the exciting day you pick your new friend up; a lead, muzzle and collar will be given so you are both set for those lovely walks and adventures. Until the dog has settled into his new life and environment we advise that your greyhound wears the muzzle, this will only be short term, remember he has worn a muzzle all his racing life and will be used to it.
